SG Burial Platform Finds a Fresh Start With Granger Plastics

Restored molds, improved product consistency and a new manufacturing relationship help a funeral director’s vision move forward.
Stephen J. Sabo Jr. built SG Burial Platform LLC around an idea drawn from decades of experience as a funeral director: improve the way gravesites are prepared and presented for services. But as the business developed, declining manufacturing quality created a problem. The products reaching his customers no longer reflected the standards he wanted his company to represent.
When Sabo was told his production molds needed to be replaced, he sought another evaluation. That search brought him to The Granger Plastics Company in Middletown, Ohio—and ultimately to restored tooling and better finished products.
A Business Built on Firsthand Experience
Established in 2014, SG Burial Platform LLC grew from Sabo’s understanding of the practical demands facing funeral and cemetery professionals.
His SG Burial Platform provides an alternative to traditional arrangements of wooden planks and graveside greens. The polyethylene platform features tapered edges, a non-skid surface and a custom lid intended to help keep water and debris from entering the vault at a pre-dug grave.
The SG Urn Pedestal complements that product with a dedicated surface for urn services at cemeteries, funeral homes and churches. Both products bring Sabo’s experience into designs focused on preparation and dignified presentation.
Looking for a Way Forward
According to Sabo, product quality had declined during his time with a previous manufacturer. The molds were in poor condition, and he had been advised that they could no longer produce acceptable products.
After several conversations with Granger, Sabo moved the tooling to its Middletown facility. Granger’s evaluation identified an opportunity to restore the existing molds and return them to production.
The work took months. Repairs addressed damaged parting lines, kiss-off features, mold surface finish and broken supporting framework. Resolving those problems required attention to both the condition of the tooling and how it performed during manufacturing.
A Difference the Customer Could See
Following the restoration and transfer of production, Sabo reported substantial improvements in the quality and consistency of his burial platforms and urn pedestals.
“The difference now in our finished product compared to our old manufacturer is outstanding. Granger Plastics is as good as it gets. I wish I found them first.”
Granger now manufactures both products, bringing mold support and ongoing production together at the same facility. For Sabo, the result is a manufacturing relationship that supports the standards behind his business.
